503-232-8845 [map]
Price: $15

Returning to the wonderful stage and warm atmosphere at Cafe Artichoke, with a batch of new story songs from roads less traveled that are slated for my next record project, "Bargain Against the Barley."  Recording for that has already started and I'm pushing towards a summer release.  I will be rolling out the old favorites at this show of course.

I am also looking forward to sharing the stage this evening with Radio Stranger, a Portland, Oregon based duo, writing and performing their unique brand of eclectic acoustic pop music in the Pacific Northwest. The duo consists of Kelly Brightwell & Woody Moran -- two established singer/songwriters who combine forces to create songs that people want to listen to & sing along with over and over again. Their sound is reminiscent of Birds of Chicago and the UK band The Shires. This March, Radio Stranger is honored to open for David Wilcox at a sold-out Portland house concert. They are finishing up their second EP, which is due out later this spring.

Joining us for the evening will be two amazing musicians: Jean-Pierre Garau on keyboard and Jeffrey Koch on guitars, both of whom are in-demand session players and members of project bands, who always bring a distinct touch and high caliber musical sensibility.  We enjoy working with them so much.

From the website:
"14 miles out on the end of the beautiful Toandos Peninsula sits the Laurel B. Johnson Community Center operated by the Jefferson County Parks & Recreation District and the citizens of the Toandos Peninsula.  The Toandos Peninsula is frequently called the "Coyle Peninsula" because the community of Coyle is located at the tip and occasionally it is called the "Dabob Peninsula" because it separates Dabob Bay from the rest of the Hood Canal. And it is also affectionately called "the end of the earth" by some of the residents who live way out here... the perfect place to hear an intimate concert in a beautiful room...."

"Concerts are for all ages, featuring the best of folk, Americana, singer/songwriter, Appalachian, bluegrass, Celtic, blues, country and more!  Admission is by donation."

at Artichoke Music - 7:30pm
3130 SE Hawthorne Blvd
Portland, OR
503-232-8845 [map]
Price: $15

I am really excited about this show, coming up on Sept 26 at our beloved Artichoke Music.  Not only will I be joined by a great guest band, the show will be opened by Nashville recording and touring duo Mare Wakefield and Nomad.

I first met Mare last year at the Tumbleweed Music Festival. We have been in touch off and on and it turned out that she and Nomad will be touring through Portland on the day of my show - timing is everything, as they say.  "With a voice that's been called "Oregon cafes, small Texas towns and twangy Nashville rolled into one" (Cranky Crow, Seattle) Mare (pronounced Mary) is gently carving out a name for herself.  She was also a NewFolk Finalist this year at Kerrville.

My new EP "Near and Far" was soft-released online earlier this year, but there wasn't time to pull together a release show, with other irons in the fire.  When early autumn rolls in, however, most everyone is back from summer travel, kids are back in school, and life is settling down to the home fires. Perfect time for dinner out and a concert. My guest band (so far) includes keyboardist extraordinaire Jean-Pierre Garau, bass wizard Arcellus Sykes, the drumming finesse of Anders Bergstrom, and Kelly Brightwell with her amazing voice on backing vocals.  There may be some other surprise guests on a few other songs as well.

For a preview, a couple of the EP song clips are playing on my home page music player mix.

Admission is just $15 (door or reserve) which includes a free copy of the EP.  Doors 7:30, music starts at 8.  As usual, the regular Artichoke refreshments are close at hand.
