Returning once again to in-person status after two difficult Covid years. The annual conference continues with showcase concerts for invited artists and in-room artist showcases for attending venue owners and registered members of the public. Plus a number of seminars and presenter panels. A full weekend of camaraderie and renewal for all of us. See you there!
Following our show in Seattle, Scott will be in Portland for a backyard house concert at Tiny Deck House Concerts. Always a good time and a shady spot to relax in the garden and enjoy the music. Bring snacks and beverages to share, along with a lawn chair. $25 donation Please RSVP to Mary: email@example.com
I will be joining my good friend and wonderful songwriter Marianne Flemming, as bassist and backup vocalist, for some outdoor tunes on the deck at the beautiful Kalama Harbor Lodge. Marianne has toured the country for two decades in years past with her own distinct voice and song style. She often combines jazz, pop, rock and folk influences. I will likely play a few tunes of my own. She will also be joined by fiddler and vocalist Olivia Duffy. Cover charge. http://www.marianneflemmingmusic.com/
Another return engagement at the beautiful home in West Seattle known among friends as "Chateau Relaxo."
Looking forward to again joining my good friend, Austin songwriter and fingerstyle guitarist Scott Martin, for a house concert overlooking Puget Sound with a gorgeous westerly view. I'll be on bass and backup vocals and will play a few tunes of my own. May even break out the piano. We'll hope for another gorgeous sunset as in 2021. Scott has just released his latest album project in March 2022, entitled "Corner of the World", which is receiving wonderful reviews in industry media covering Folk and Americana music. Bring snacks and beverages to share, along with your favorite lawn chair.
Outdoor house concert in River Grove, west of Lake Oswego. A lovely and lush garden space with room to relax in the shade on a summer day. I will be joined and supported by in-demand keyboardist and vocalist Jean-Pierre Garau, well known in Portland music circles and beyond. We will likely tackle a few of his tunes while we're at it. Recent shows with JP have been super fun and incredibly musical... he is a master at adding texture. Parking at Pilkington Park. Just a stone's long throw from the Tualatin River. Bring snacks to share and your preferred beverage.
Suggested donation $20-25. Please contact Marta Lansing to RSVP: firstname.lastname@example.org
I'll be joining a Portland duo of fabulous songwriters Kelly Brightwell and Woody Moran (aka Radio Stranger) as their bassist and backup vocalist for an evening outdoor house concert at Tiny Deck Concerts. Kelly and Woody have just completed the final mastering process on their latest EP, produced by the very talented Dean Baskerville who has shepherded many a fine album project over the years. Songs will not be released until the fall, but Radio Stranger will be sharing them with the audience at this show, along with other favorites. Bring snacks and beverages to share, and your favorite lawn chair.
Heading out to Estacada to play a First Friday show at Harmony Baking in their FF series. Joining me as a sideman will be guitarist extraordinaire Jeffrey Koch. Also sharing the stage for a set of his own will be the energetic and wonderful songwriter, Chris Baron, who among other honors has just won the 2022 Tucson Folk Festival songwriting contest. C'mon out for delicious food and baked treats, and enjoyable music, on the doorstep of summer.
No cover. Donations appreciated.
On the heels of his recent album release "Corner of the World", Scott Martin will be performing all the songs on the record at a private house concert event hosted at the concert space at the Mosaic Art and Home Gallery in Smithville, Texas. This will be one of several planned release performances. I will be joining Scott, on bass and backing vocals, and he will also be joined by multi-instrumentalist David Mosher, a fine songwriter in his own right. David and I will play a few songs of our own as well. Scott will be reaching out to the Mosaic folks and other fans of his music with concert attendance info. He can be contacted at email@example.com
Winterfolk 2022, the annual benefit concert in support of the Portland homeless community, hosted in Portland by Tom May, founder and creator of the long-running folk radio show "River City Folk." I have been invited as one of the guest artists. Artist lineup includes Kate Power and Steve Einhorn, Mary Flower, Kristen Grainger and Dan Wetzel with True North, Ben and Heidi Sadler, Tom May with Donny Wright and Matt Snook. Tickets available at Alberta Rose Theatre and Music Millennium https://www.facebook.com/Winterfolk/
Just one year ago, Radio Stranger (aka Portland songwriters Kelly Brightwell and Woody Moran) held a fabulous street concert for many enthusiastic neighbors. Together with the support band (Jean-Pierre Garau on keys, Jeffrey Koch on electric guitar, and yours truly on da bass), it was a welcome boogie time after such a crazy summer of both Covid and western wildfires running amok, and heavy smoke in our area which cleared that week. And Kelly was saying farewell, bound for the Midwest. Her life path has changed, however, and she is back with us in Portland, so we are using this September occasion for another great show in West Linn, an anniversary concert of sorts. And we have our longtime drummer friend Don Shultz with us this time! Come out and see us! Watch for the Facebook event on the Radio Stranger page.
I'm returning this year to the Virtual Tumbleweed Music Festival. The festival is normally held each year in Richland, Washington, at a lovely park on the banks of the Columbia River, but changed last year to a virtual presentation due to Covid. It continues in this format for 2021 with online performances and workshops. Streaming starts on September 3 and continues through the weekend. "Stage" assignments and access links will be found at the festival link. I will be appearing on the virtual state for the Second Singer Songwriter Showcase. There is no online fee or cover charge. http://www.tumbleweedfest.com/tmfvirtual2021.html
A house concert return engagement at the beautiful home in West Seattle known locally among friends as "Chateau Relaxo." Looking forward to again joining my good friend, Austin songwriter and fingerstyle guitarist Scott Martin, for his house concert overlooking Puget Sound with a westerly view. Sublime. We'll hope for another gorgeous sunset as in 2019. $25 donation at the door.
Kicking off Scott Martin's northwest mini-tour, we are headed to a wonderful, large B&B on the south end of Flathead Lake, in Polson MT, to play outdoors for the fine folks gathered there. Big Sky country. I haven't been to Montana in quite awhile. I will of course be backing Scott on bass and vocals, and playing a few songs of my own. Dates to follow in Seattle and Portland. We are really looking forward to this. More details TBA.
Bycroft Gardens, Portland OR
Private house concert in northeast Portland, appearing once again with keyboardist extraordinaire Jean-Pierre Garau, adding his amazing textures to my songs. Opening will be Notably Journey, a folk-jazz duo from the Seattle area. We will be outside, on the deck, in a lovely and lush area at a home we like to call the Bycroft Gardens. BYOB and snacks. Please be fully vaxxed. Doors 6pm, concert start 6:30pm https://www.facebook.com/events/140776734824383
Excited to be playing a virtual house concert, at Johnson Studio House Concerts, from Portland to Texas by way of lots of digital bits, on March 27th, 7:00-8:30 pm CDT (5pm PDT). Hosted by Pam and James Johnson. Special thanks to them for the invitation. I will be joined by my good friend and master keyboardist, Jean-Pierre Garau, well-known here in Portland and beyond as a busy sideman, session player, composer and teacher. See the JSHC link above for RSVP instructions and the Zoom link. There is no admission cost although we of course appreciate donations, via either of the links below. Hope to see you there!
A streaming concert on Halloween night to support those impacted by the region's wildfires this year. Hosted by Tom May, and will include performances by Tom, Pretty Gritty, and Dan Weber (I will be Dan's sideman on bass and backup vocal). The concert is being pre-recorded at Artichoke Music on Oct 15, in front of a limited live audience (socially distanced). Additional information will be available on the Artichoke website for contributing.
A return engagement for me on "River City Folk," this time as Dan Weber's sideman (bass and backup vocal) while he joins Tom May to record a show edition as the featured guest this month. As always, a great time with Dan.
An end-of-summer neighborhood street concert is on tap with my friends Radio Stranger (the Portland songwriting duo of Kelly Brightwell and Woody Moran). We can't wait for this! It's been a long, hot summer, burdened with the ongoing concerns about Covid. We are happy to just be getting out in front of folks, out in the fresh air, all of us (player and spectators) keeping out distance, but ready for music. The support band includes myself on bass and backing vocals along with Jean-Pierre Garau, well known keyboardist in Portland, and Jeffrey Koch on electric guitar, both of whom are involved in a number of ongoing band projects. Dancing in the streets! This is also a farewell for Kelly, who is heading to live in the Midwest for an unknown period of time. Come and say "see you later" to Kelly and wish her well.
The Tumbleweed Music Festival, held each year in Richland, Washington (Tri-Cities area), on the banks of the Columbia River, has been changed to a virtual festival this year due to Covid. A ton of work went into pulling together many video performances and organizing the online festival event. And the organizers have continued the song contest as well. Streaming starts on September 4 and continues through the weekend. I will be on the "West Stage". There is no online fee or cover charge. Enjoy!! https://tumbleweedmusicfestival.org/west-stage/
Well-known folksinger Tom May, the long time radio host and producer of his national show "River City Folk" has invited me to be on the show as his featured guest. I'm really looking forward to this. We will be "taping" the show (who uses tape for video anymore?) in front of a live audience (socially distanced, of course) at Artichoke Music in Portland. The show will air at 4pm on Oct 17, 2020, on many community radio stations across the country, and on the web at https://folkmusicnotebook.com.
